“HENRI’S LETTERS” is a dramatic period piece with dance, written by Sarah A. Pletts. Act I establishes the relationship of artist Henri Matisse and Sarah Stein (Gertrude’s sister-in-law.) He wrote letters confiding in Sarah, who burned them before her death. But not before sharing them with a young artist, Franklin Faust. Act II reveals how the letters affect Faust’s life as a painter and professor. He taught at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, for 30 years ,where he impacted countless lives. Faust is a living American master at 87, residing in Maine and still painting every day since he met Sarah. Our play begins in 1906 in Paris and proceeds into the NYC illuminated'60s art world and ends in the present time. The modern dance takes us into deep emotions.

In 1953, Henri wrote this inscription to Sarah: “A Madame Sarah Stein, qui m’a si souvent soutenu dans mes faiblesses.” (To Madame Sarah Stein, who so often aided me through my weaknesses.)  He also wrote that she was “the really intelligently sensitive member of the family."
